Wofford Takes Two from UNCG Softball

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell twice to The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford on Friday at Hope Field with scores of 4-3 and 12-5.

GAME 1: UNCG 3 - WOFFORD 4

Both teams were scoreless through the third inning until UNCG put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth. Maycin Brown reached on a walk to lead off the fourth and advanced to second on Anna White's sacrifice bunt. Betsy Eatmon then took the second pitch of her at bat over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead.

With one out and a runner on first for the Terriers in the bottom of the fourth, Kalli Petty doubled to left center to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.

Wofford continued its offensive momentum in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 4-2 advantage.

In the top of the sixth with runners in scoring position, UNCG cut the deficit to one as Eatmon grounded out to the shortstop to bring home Jessie Shipley, 4-3.

Wofford tallied one more hit in the bottom of the sixth before securing the win after UNCG stranded one runner in the top of the seventh, 4-3.

GAME 2: UNCG 5 - WOFFORD 12

Wofford kicked off the game with a four-spot in the bottom of the first.

UNCG began to chip away at the lead with a run in each of the second and third innings. Tori Dalehite drove in Jaden Cheek on her RBI double to right center with one out, 4-1.

The Spartans then had Anna White lead off the top of the third with a double to right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With one out, Jorde Chartrand flew out to center field for a sacrifice fly, scoring White to cut the deficit to two, 4-2.

The Terriers added a run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI ground out from Campbell for a three-run advantage, 5-2.

UNCG saw its offense bounce back in the top of the fifth tying the game, 5-5, on three runs and two hits. Eatmon smashed her seventh home run of the season to left field, 5-3, before Shipley crushed her sixth blast of the season, a two-run shot to left field.

Wofford broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth, scoring seven runs on three hits for a 12-5 advantage. The Terriers held on for the win, retiring three-straight in the top of the seventh.
