Small earthquake reported in western NC overnight Friday

BRYSON CITY, N.C. (WNCN) — A second small earthquake this week has been reported near the North Carolina-Tennessee border. 

According to the USGS, the 2.1 magnitude earthquake happened after 1:30 a.m. on Friday with a depth of 3 kilometers. 

The small earthquake happened just 10.5 miles west-northwest of Bryson City, North Carolina. 

Tuesday’s earthquake was reported just before 5 a.m. and had a magnitude of 2.0 and a depth of 8 kilometers. It was also near Bryson City. 

Friday’s earthquake was the 11th to rattle North Carolina this year.
