D.C. Defenders pick up a huge win against San Antonio

The D.C. Defenders (3-3) hosted the San Antonio Brahmas (4-2) at Audi Field on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Week 6 of the UFL season. A crowd of 14,303 fans witnessed this final meeting between the two teams for the season. In Week 1, the Brahmas had defeated the Defenders 27-12. However, in this game, the Defenders avenged their loss with an 18-12 win. With the win over San Antonio, D.C. secured the third position with four weeks remaining in the season, while St. Louis remained in first place in the XFL Conference, followed by San Antonio in second place.

D.C. put up a total of 294 yards on offense and received only two penalties for 15 yards. Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu completed 14 out of 22 passes (64%) for 179 yards, one touchdown, and also had four carries for -7 yards. The touchdown pass occurred in the fourth quarter to wide receiver Kelvin Harmon for 13 yards, which gave the Defenders an 18-12 lead with only 5:07 left in the game.

Running back Darius Hagans led the rushers with 13 carries for 63 yards, while Cam’Ron Harris had 9 carries for 39 yards and one touchdown. Harris’s touchdown happened in the second quarter for two yards, which made it 6-3 D.C. with only 1:36 remaining before halftime. The rushers finished the afternoon with 31 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Kelvin Harmon stood out as the leading receiver of the game, making 8 catches for 101 yards and one touchdown. The receivers finished the afternoon making 14 catches for 179 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Matthew McCrane made two field goals, with the longest being 58 yards. D.C.’s defense made 65 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

San Antonio had 267 yards on offense and was penalized seven times for 45 yards. Quarterback Quinten Dormady completed 16 of 26 passes (62%) for 79 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and three carries for 30 yards. Dormady’s touchdown happened in the third quarter to running back John Lovett for two yards that tied the game 9-9 with nine seconds left.

Running back John Lovett led the rushers with 23 carries for 153 yards, two catches for one yard, and one touchdown. The rushers finished the afternoon carrying the ball 31 times for 200 yards. Wide receiver Cody Latimer led the receivers making six catches for 35 yards. The receivers finished the game making 16 catches for 79 yards, and one touchdown.

Kicker Ryan Santoso kicked two field goals with a long of 43 yards. San Antonio’s defense made 62 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.
