Franchises often have a shelf life with an expiration date, and it only takes one movie to turn a fanbase away from an expansive franchise. Hollywood is currently in the era of franchises and big IP expansions. Almost every movie that strikes big at the box office belongs to a larger franchise of films, but no franchise lasts forever.
