The midfielder is the first Jacksonville Armada FC player to receive the honor

Jacksonville Armada FC midfielder Zach Steinberger has been voted the Player of the Month for May by NASL media after a powerful month of play and notching eight honors.

It is no secret around the league that Steinberger has been a dominant force for his team this year. The California native has been a standout for the club in just nine weeks of play. During the month of May alone, Steinberger recorded five goals and an assist, leading his club to a franchise record with three consecutive wins.

“He’s been playing like Zach Steinberger,” said head coach Mark Lowry. “That’s who he is. That’s the guy we worked tremendously hard at keeping in the offseason.”

In early May, Steinberger stunned fans with a powerful volley in second-half stoppage time against the New York Cosmos. Jacksonville had not been able to find the net all game, but Steinberger changed that with his goal to keep the team undefeated. He earned the Armada FC Man of the Match and NASL Player of the Week.

Although the Armada FC took the first loss of the season on May 13 in North Carolina, the team came back with a vengeance and Steinberger went on to score two goals in the next two consecutive league games, first in San Francisco and then in a revenge game against North Carolina at Hodges Stadium. The games earned him one Man of the Match honor and back-to-back NASL Player of the Week honors, a first in Armada FC history. To top it all off, he was also placed in the NASL Team of the Week three times in May.

“This is the Zach Steinberger we knew we were getting,” said Lowry. “For him, for his sake, I hope he continues this form. If he continues this form he is going to achieve his personal and individual goals in his career. I want him to achieve those goals.”

This is Steinberger’s second season with Jacksonville. In 2016, he debuted with the club on a loan from the Houston Dynamo of the MLS. His presence was immediately felt, as he scored in his debut and tallied the game-winning goal in the final game of the season.

The Armada FC officially signed Steinberger in February 2017 and he has already surpassed his four-goal total from 2016 in just nine weeks of NASL play.

Steinberger’s breakthrough could not have come at a better time for the Armada FC. The team now sits at second place in the league standings and is battling to be the 2017 NASL Spring Season Champions.

Jacksonville hopes to see more of Steinberger’s magic as it hosts Miami FC on Saturday, June 3 and battles for first place in the NASL. The pivotal match is slated for 7 p.m. EST at Hodges Stadium. Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased on or by calling 1-844-2-ARMADA.
