Friday Night Baseball At Its Best

The University of North Florida Osprey’s over came a 3-2 deficit in the 7th inning Friday Night to beat Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles 6-3 at Hammond Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida in the opening of a three-game series.

UNF scored in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Mac Wilson. The Ospreys sealed the victory in the eighth with an RBI single by Christian Diaz and an RBI double by Wesley Weeks.

FGCU’s first run came in the second on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Levine. The Eagles’ final two runs were in the sixth on RBI singles by Gage Morey and Levine.

Tyler DuPont picked up the win for UNF, giving up one hit and one walk, while striking out two in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Kutter Crawford took the loss for FGCU, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings.

“I was happy with the way the guys battled back early, but we have to do a better job of playing with a lead,” FGCU coach Dave Tollett said. “It’s something we’ve struggled with a bit of the past few weeks and we need to shore some things up and get back to how we were playing early on, with confidence and freedom. It was nice to see some big, two-out hits from our guys, but we need more people to step up in key situations.”
