Portland Poised for the Return of the HERD
The National Arena League is excited to announce the expected return of the Maine Mammoths. The 2018 NAL expansion team has found an ownership group that is currently completing the final stage of approval from the National Arena League. When approved, the Mammoths will once again take the field in the NAL for the 2020 season and beyond. The Mammoths expect to return to their home turf at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, ME. The Maine Mammoths franchise was formed in 2017 and kicked off their inaugural season in 2018. Before suspending operations for the 2019 season, the Mammoths witnessed the rapid growth of an exciting fan base in the Portland area, filling their arena with a unique football culture fan base that craved entertainment.
During the 2018 season Mammoth Nation got what they wanted, as the 1-3 expansion turned their season around and finished one game shy of the playoffs, becoming one of the most talked-about franchises in the NAL after defeating each of the top teams in the league towards the end of the year ending their first year on a five-game win streak.
Since then, National Sports Ventures has been committed to finding the right ownership to manage the popular Portland-based franchise, but with the planned expansion of the NAL’s 2019 teams, and with the 2019 season a short time away, it was necessary to suspend the operations of the Maine Mammoths for season until the right ownership could be finalized.
Now the Mammoths are poised to return to the National Arena League for 2020. Information about the new ownership, the team, merchandise, and more will be announced in the days to come. We are especially excited for the city of Portland, it’s residents, and the patient fans who embraced the team in 2018. The City of Portland is likely to power another successful season for the Maine Mammoths.
