Week  7 of the United Football League 2024 Season came to Audi Field in the Nations Capitol as the DC Defenders hosted the Michigan Panthers on Mother's Day and a crowd of 12,222 watches as former Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke rushed for a touchdown on the opening possession and the Panthers never looked back, defeating the D.C. Defenders, 22-9

The Panthers are 5-2 in the United Football League's first season, two games behind the USFL Division-leading and unbeaten Birmingham Stallions.

Lewerke drew his first start with the Panthers but, despite the seven-yard touchdown run on the opening possession, he might have been outshined by backup quarterback Bryce Perkins, who was 11-of-13 passing for 116 yards. Lewerke was 5 of 13 for 37 yards.

Both of the Panthers' touchdowns came on the ground, with Wes Hills scoring on a one-yard run to give them a 13-0 lead in the first quarter.

Matthew Colburn II rushed 16 times for 137 yards for the Panthers. Quarterback Jordan Ta'amu hooked up with Ty Scott for a 70-yard touchdown to pull the Defenders (3-4) within 13-6 in the first quarter, but the Panthers slowly pulled away behind field goals from Jake Bates of 51, 22 and 40 yards.

The Panthers defense, meanwhile, held the Defenders to 235 yards of total offense.
