Neighbors near Kissimmee brush fire thankful for swift response

Residents near the 10-acre area that burned Friday along State Road 441 and East Osceola Parkway said they, too, took a swift response to the fires.

“All I kept thinking was: if it crosses here, it’s going to get our house,” said resident Eddie Sharkey.

Kissimmee fire officials said the fire, which started Thursday, might have reignited and intensified on Friday.

“You couldn’t even tell these were bushes and trees. There was just so much fire and heat. You could have stood back here and felt the heat coming,” Sharkey said.

Crews from the Florida Forestry Service assisted Kissimmee fire crews by plowing through the wooded area, which allowed them better access to the blaze.

The Kissimmee Fire Department has issued a ban on outdoor burning of any kind, which remains in effect.
