Life In Late 2017

Boy The Times Have Changed In America 2017

Living in 2017 is TOUGH. Not only are we driven to be the Best, but you need to worry about EVERYTHING you say or Do. Your Comments, Actions, Clothing or Intentions can and will be used against you in the most Hideous way.

Reading the headline’s from today it apparent that we live in a Violent Country. Manhattan truck crash leaves at least 8 dead! 2 men charged in shooting of woman, good Samaritan! Family escapes McDonald’s shooting after van pelted with shots! and then in what we really don’t understand,  Blackface ‘Aunt Jemima’ costume causes stir at St. Augustine bakery! Yes, we said STIR. Protests. Hundreds of pro and Con Protesters all upset at a white women that thought it would be a good idea to come to the bakery where she worked dressed as Aunt Jemima! With her white face painted Black.

Somethings that come to mind first of course is that today October 31, 2017 is HALLOWEEN. The day we dress up as OTHER people and have a good time. Millions of Kids will dress up tonight and run thru neighborhood’s trying to get the most candy. So the goal today, is find a cool costume and play your role.  (YOU HAVE ONE JOB TODAY.. ACT A FOOL).

Now if you don’t know Aunt Jemina… and It’s hard to believe anyone hasn’t heard yet… (if not GOOGLE) Aunt Jemima is a brand of pancake mix, syrup, and other breakfast foods owned by the Quaker Oats Company of Chicago. The trademark dates to 1893, although Aunt Jemima pancake mix debuted in 1889. The Quaker Oats Company first registered the Aunt Jemima trademark in April 1937.

So today, this white lady that works at a Bakery thought it would be funny to dress up as Aunt Jemima and go to work. She even gave herself the BlackFace. Her friends and co-workers Understood the cooks HALLOWEEN Costume, but a group of Flagler College students took offense at the BLACKFACE calling the move Racist.

Blackface was an important performance tradition in the American theater for roughly 100 years beginning around 1830. It quickly became popular elsewhere, particularly so in Britain, where the tradition lasted longer than in the U.S., occurring on primetime TV, most famously in The Black and White Minstrel Show, which ended in 1978 and in Are You Being Served?’s Christmas specials in 1976 and finally in 1981. But in 2017 it’s RACIAL.

In 2004  Keenen Ivory Wayans, alongside his brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans stared in White Chicks, a comedy about 2 Black Detectives going undercover as white college girls. It has a 15% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed $113.1 million worldwide against a budget of $37 million.  In 2008 Tropic Thunder, Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. star as a group of prima donna actors who are making a fictional Vietnam War film.  For the movie Robert Downey Jr. under went medical treatment to get his White Skin to look Black. The film grossed more than $188 million worldwide before its release on home video on November 18, 2008. and No one was Offended.

We American’s need to learn to work together. Live Together. And become the Country we were founded for. Its not about the color of ones skin. It’s about what is between their ears. It’s about putting a puzzle together. You need all kinds of pieces. And yes, all the pieces do fit somewhere. But Not everything should be taken Negatively.

There are four identical statues of Andrew Jackson, seventh president, on horseback. The best-known statue is the one in Jackson Square, New Orleans. Another is in Nashville, Tennessee. Another is in Washington, D.C. The fourth is in Jacksonville, Florida. For years Jacksonville’s copy of the statue of the city’s namesake was perched behind a lesser-used entrance to the Jacksonville Landing, a half-empty shopping mall built downtown in the 1980s, just west of the Main Street Bridge. In 2010, the statue was moved to a new roundabout at the southern end of Laura Street, just north of the Landing. And now in 2017 Several groups are pushing Jacksonville City leaders to take down this statue. Calling the statue Racist and offensive to them.  But since Jacksonville Florida is NAMED after Andrew Jackson, wouldn’t it be OFFENSIVE to LIVE in Jacksonville, Florida? Shouldn’t the name of the city be changed?
