What a week this has been, and LockedIN Magazine hasnt stopped yet. Tons going on around the ECHL and we are looking at some of the moves.
Atlanta Gladiators announced on Tuesday that they have signed defenseman Jake Flegel to a standard professional contract.
Flegel, 26, played 11 games in the ECHL last season for the Cincinnati Cyclones earning two points (1g, 1a) and one game for the Brampton Beast. The fourth-year pro has skated the majority of his career in the SPHL registering 38 points (4g, 34a), 216 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating for Knoxville and Peoria. The 6-foot-4, 216-pound defender set career highs in assists (14) and penalty minutes (118) in 50 games during the 2016-17 season for the Ice Bears.
Nashville Recalls Magwood to Milwaukee, Persson Loaned to Atlanta. The Atlanta Gladiators announced on Tuesday that the NHL’s Nashville Predators have recalled forward Zach Magwood from his loan to the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. In addition, forward Carl Persson has been loaned by the Predators to the Gladiators from the Admirals.
Magwood, 20, returns to Milwaukee, where he appeared in one game for the Admirals at the start of this season. The Cambridge, ON native appeared in three games for the Gladiators and notched one assist.
Persson, 23, played two games for the Gladiators at the start of the year and managed one assist and a plus-one rating. The Sweden native did not appear in any games with the Admirals during his callup to the AHL. Last year, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward notched 24 points (13g, 11a) in 52 games for Karlskrona of the SHL (top pro league in Sweden) before signing an Entry-Level Contract with the Nashville Predators during the off-season.
Gladiators Trade for Defenseman Campbell from Idaho! The Atlanta Gladiators announced on Monday that they have traded future considerations to the Idaho Steelheads for defenseman Sean Campbell.
Campbell, 25, skated in two games for the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets after winning the NCAA D-III National Championship under former Head Coach and player with the Glads, Andy Brandt at S. Norbert College in 2017-18. The East Lansing, MI native posted 49 points (15g, 34a) in 113 career games with the Green Knights. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound defender set career highs last year during his senior season in assists (15) and points (17) in 32 games played.
Doetzel, 23, started his third professional season with the AHL’s Stockton Heat, playing in one game. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound defenseman spent the majority of last season with the Heat’s ECHL affiliate, the Kansas City Mavericks, where he notched 12 points (3G, 9A) and a -4 rating in 48 games. In 67 games with the Heat over the past two seasons, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan product tallied 4 points (4A) and a +3 rating.
