National Arena League Football Comes To Jacksonville Saturday Night

It took OVERTIME to decide Saturday’s National Arena League game between the Massachusetts Pirates and the Jacksonville Sharks and My9oh4was at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena keeping our Arena Fans #LockedIN.

The Jacksonville Sharks (12-1) completed the regular-season sweep over the Massachusetts Pirates (7-6) in an incredible 54-47 overtime victory. The Sharks continue their win-streak to 12 and have just one more game to go in the regular season before the playoffs.

Quarterback, Jonathan Bane struggled against the #3 Pirates, going 13-of-29 for 132 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions. Backup Mike Fafaul took over the reins with just over a minute to go in regulation. Fafaul finished the night 5-of-5 for 48 yards and two touchdowns, including overtime. The league leading wide receiver, Devin Wilson, caught eight passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Jarmon Fortson had 26 yards and one touchdown off of five receptions. Durron Neal had three catches for 26 yards, and Kamrin Solomon had one reception for 32 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Sharks were able to force three interceptions, which included two pick-six plays. Defensive Back, Robert Brown, had the game-winning interception in overtime. Cody Saul and Markus Smith both had one interception for a touchdown. The Sharks forced five sacks on the night.

To start the game, the Sharks received the ball in hopes to set the pace of the game early on. The Pirates had other plans. The Sharks allowed two interceptions in the first quarter. This allowed Massachusetts to gain a 10-0 lead over Jacksonville. The Sharks were able to breathe after a Bane to Wilson 22 yard touchdown pass. The Sharks came back in the second quarter from a 7-17 deficit to 30-27 as they entered halftime.

Fafaul entered the game and gave the Sharks new hope. The Sharks were able to score a game-tying touchdown with just 10 seconds to go. On the second play in overtime, the Sharks scored a touchdown to bring them ahead 54-47. Moments later, Defensive Back Robert Brown caught the game-ending interception to finish the game.
