Fourth Quarter Surge Not Enough Versus Pirates

The Maine Mammoths hosted the Massachusetts Pirates and Michael Cox was there with My4one2 as the Massachusetts Pirates took care of businesses beating the Mammoths 52-37.

The Mammoths struggled to get their offense going, as they didn’t score any points in the first quarter. The ball wasn’t moved around much, but the Mammoths defense looked good. They only allowed seven points opposed to the Pirates defense, who allowed no points. The Mammoths defense struggled in the second quarter, as they allowed multiple touchdowns and allowed a field goal. Their offense was looking strong, but couldn’t do what was necessary to keep up or come up with a lead. The first half ended with a 14-23 score with the Mammoths trailing by two possessions.

The second half was a stronger half, but still couldn’t find any ways to come up and take the lead. The third quarter started with a turnover from the Mammoths, which resulted in a Pirates touchdown. The Pirates also received the ball to start the half and scored a touchdown on that drive. After the turnover and Pirates touchdown, the score is 35-14 in the Pirates favor. The Mammoths were still unable to score and allowed another touchdown. Pirates Wide Receiver Bones Bagaunte reeled in his fifth touchdown of the night to put the Pirates up 42-20 with an Edgar Poe Jr. touchdown to end the third quarter. The Mammoths had a great fourth quarter, but wasn’t what it took to come up with a victory. The Mammoths outscored the Pirates 17-10 with touchdowns from Wide Receivers Edger Poe Jr. and Robert Brown Jr. The Mammoths didn’t come up with a victory, but still fought hard in the fourth quarter. The final score to this game is 37-52.

The next Mammoths game is against the Columbus Lions on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm (E.T.).
