Super heroes and villains are taking over downtown Atlanta as Dragon Con gets underway
A record 85,000 people are expected to descend upon Atlanta on Labor Day weekend for Dragon Con, the city’s annual gathering to celebrate science fiction, fantasy and all sorts of gloriously geeky things in between.
While most folks in metro Atlanta may not be attending the convention itself, thousands and thousands of them will be lining up for the annual DragonCon Parade on Saturday morning. Organizers expect 65,000 people to line the streets for the parade, in which convention-goers stroll in costumes, or cosplay, celebrating their favorite fandom.
The parade kicks off at the corner of Peachtree Street and Linden Avenue at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 1. The parade will proceed southward on Peachtree to Andrew Young International Blvd., where it will turn left and proceed over one block to Peachtree Center Avenue and turn left again. The parade will proceed a block and a half northward to end in front of the Marriott Marquis Hotel. The downtown tradition has now officially become the biggest parade in Atlanta.
The festivities include celebrity appearances (Ric Flair, John Barrowman, Mike Colter, and others), panels, games, workshops and cosplay galore. If you want to extend your cosplay fun late into the night, the infamous parties have been released with times and locations on the official Dragon Con 2018 app.
