All The Fans Want For The Holidays
Twas the night before Christmas and all thru the States the fans we shouting To the owners Will you release the game dates. The owners were listen but do they really care, the answer is negative cause the schedule is NO WHERE. The fans love the game and the players give their all, Its almost 2019 and that means ARENA FOOTBALL.
As we sat down this morning thinking of the message that we wanted to give our Arena Fans, our minds were blank. Tons of things going on and sometimes the left hand and the right hand really dont talk to one another very much. The 3 major leagues, The Arena Football League(AFL), National Arena League(NAL) and the American Arena League(AAL) are all battling this year for the fan dollar. And right now, from our view point all we can say its going to be a VERY INTERESTING SEASON.
Kicking off in the AAL, sometimes league owners want to do the right thing, they just don’t want to look like they got PUSHED into it. The league announced in Early December the new Northern Division of the AAL, and after a ton of outcry and fans bashing the league, the AAL has changed its mind again. Not that the TOLD anyone. But here is the idea.
Let’s make 3 divisions (hmmm wonder where they heard that Gregg?). Northern Division with Jersey Flight, New England Bobcats, Pittsburgh Defenders and the West Virginia Roughriders. Mid Atlantic Division with Cape Fear Heroes, Carolina Havoc, Carolina Predators and the High Country Grizzlies. And the Southern Division with the Carolina Cowboys, Carolina Energy, Georgia Doom and the Peach State Cats.
This sounds alittle better then the 2 division plan, but there still needs to be some playing around.
The West Virginia Roughriders announced the hiring of Chris Thoburn as the Roughriders Live Stream Play-by-Play Commentator for the 2019 Season The WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. The team went on to announce that Offensive Lineman Duke Robinson, DB Malique Johnson and defensive lineman B.J. McBryde were signed as well. Robinson, 6’5″ 330lb was a standout for the Oklahoma State University.
Johnson, a former 6’2 starting linebacker for Old Dominion University, was signed in 2017, in their inaugural season, by the Richmond Roughriders professional arena football team playing at the historic Richmond Coliseum. Malique, a versatile player on defense, would go onto be an integral part of the Roughriders first championship season and particularly in the championship game, in which Johnson intercepted the Florida Tarpons quarterback, Mike Wallace, and returned the ball all the way for a touchdown in the final remaining seconds of the game to seal the victory for the first year Roughriders. Johnson would go onto continue his success with the Roughriders in 2018, helping them all the way to the another championship appearance and securing his second all-star team selection in just two years.
B.J. McBryde is a former defensive end for the University of Connecticut Huskies (2011-2014). After graduating, McBryde would get signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. After his time with the Eagles organization, McBryde would go onto join the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49er’s, participating on their practice squads and finding numerous in-game opportunities. Most recently, B.J. McBryde was signed by arena football’s Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League (NAL) where he played his 2018 season.
Carolina Energy add Defensive Linemen Rawley White and Former Washington State University Standout Ian Bell for the 2019 season. White, 6-4 255 was a star on the Peach State Cats last year, and with some major weapons around him, the Energy should lead their Division.
Over In the NAL, after the news of the NY Streets came out, all eyes turned towards Orlando Florida and what may or NOT be the Orlando Predators rebirth.
The Massachusetts Pirates have signed former Wisconsin defensive back Lubern Figaro. Figaro, 6’-1” 180lbs. from nearby Everett, MA played four seasons for the Badgers from 2014 through 2017 were he lettered each season.
So with that off our chest, its time to get the egg nog made and to get ready to roast some chest nuts on the open Fire!
