Records, Wins and The Championship
What a weekend in Arena Football. Not only did we get to see Joe “Superman” Hills break yet another record, but we got to see some pretty good football. Some Good stuff from the American Arena League, National Arena League and the Arena Football League. It’s June 18th and we are talking arena football!!
Let’s start out with some GOOD THINGS!!
Joe “Superman” Hills, WR from the Baltimore Brigade, caught a touchdown in this weekends game, marking him the first person to catch a Touchdown in 100 consecutive games! Hill’s streak started in Tampa with the Tampa Bay Storm, and he made stops with the Jacksonville Sharks (AFL/NAL), Florida Tarpons(AAL) and the Albany Empire(AFL).
In 2016, Hills was the first American selected (second overall pick) in the 2016 draft of the China Arena Football League being selected by the Dalian Dragon Kings! Hills did not play in the CAL.
Over In The American Arena League:
The Table is set for the 2019 Jack Bowmen Trophy! The American Arena League Championship game is set for Saturday June 29, 2019 at the Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling West Virginia.
The Carolina Energy defeated the 2018 AAL Champions, Carolina Havoc 58-38 on Saturday to advance and the West Virginia Roughriders defeated the West Michigan Ironmen 45-6 to claim the other spot.
Per the AAL’s Press Release:
Carolina Energy owner and Head Coach Ervin Bryson expressed his excitement to have the Energy play for the American Arena League Championship. “We have received tremendous support from the Charlotte community and the staff at Bojangles Coliseum. The wonderful success of the Charlotte Checkers professional hockey team has decreased the number of available home dates, thus, playing on the road was the viable option.” The teams last met in the 2018 American Arena League playoffs.
Some confusion there as per league directive the highest ranked team would host the Championship game, and the Roughriders were ranked higher. Should be a Good Game… and LockedIN will have you #LockedIN.
Over in the National Arena League:
Two really good matchups this weekend as the NY Streets invade Jacksonville Florida to take on the Jacksonville Sharks. The Sharks, winners of 7 in a row, are coming off a 55-29 win over the Lions last week. The Sharks are using this game to let QB Jonathan Bane heal and are counting on newly signed QB Garry Chouloute to bring in win number 8.
The other NAL game might turn into a nail biter as the Columbus Lions(3-5) are visiting Worcester Massachusetts to take on the Massachusetts Pirates(4-4). If the Lions hope to compete for the Championship, THIS IS A MUST WIN GAME! Lose this and the chances of hitting the playoffs are 0.
The NY Streets are making moves releasing DL Raymond Durrett Jr, LB Bryant Lewis Jr, DB Terrell White and Activating WR Tyler McDonald and DL Herbert Moore.

Over in The Arena Football League:
The Arena Football League announced that Baltimore Brigade quarterback Shane Boyd has been named Week 7’s Offensive Player of the Week for his strong performance that resulted in giving the Albany Empire their first loss of the season.
Boyd threw for 261 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Brigade to a narrow 42-41 victory against the previously unbeaten Empire on Saturday, June 8th. The six touchdowns tied his previous season high from Week 1 against the Washington Valor and the 261 passing yards are his second highest of the season.
Boyd, a seven-year veteran, is in his third season with the Brigade. He is leading the league with the fewest interceptions with 4 and has completed 150 passes for 1,625 yards and 31 touchdowns this season.
