Now Wooten is happy to come back and contribute.
The Massachusetts Pirates have signed three players to bolster their roster before facing the New York Streets in White Plains (NY) Monday afternoon. Two who will join the defensive side of the ball played with the team last season. Mike Weaver, former standout kicker at Wake Forrest, also joins the team.
Weaver, who makes his home in Pine City, NY, was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer. Weaver saw action for the Demon Deacons from 2014-2017. As a junior he received first team All-ACC honors making all 28 of his extra points and connecting on 21 of 27 field goals. As a senior, Weaver was on the Lou Groza Award pre-season watch list. He finished 2017 with 115 points to set a single season school record while leading the ACC in scoring. He also totaled 13 points in the Belk Bowl, establishing a record going seven for seven on PAT’s. Weaver set Wake Forrest’s seasonal records with 56 extra point attempts and with 52 extra points made. The Pirates also have brought back defensive end Roosevelt (RJ) Roberts.
