LockedIN On Arena Football May 20

Monday Morning QB With The Good, The Bad and The WHAT?

What a Weekend! Who had Fun? The Jacksonville Sharks Defense for ONE! Stood Up as a Team and sent the Orlando Predators back to the drawing board. How about the Washington Valor, quarterback Arvell Nelson and those seven total touchdowns and one in the final seconds. How about them Carolina Cobras with 4 defensive touchdowns. These and more as we talk about Arena Football.

Starting off in the National Arena League,

The Carolina Cobras wanted to rebound after last weeks loss to the Sharks, and the defense made that happen turning up the heat and scoring 4 defensive touchdowns as the Cobras(4-1)  beat the Columbus Lions (2-3) by a final score of 60-32

The Reuniting of a Rivalry took over 2 years to set up and in 4 quarters the Jacksonville Sharks showed the National Arena League that they were for REAL this year and the Orlando Predators weren’t ready! Thanks to Mark Miller for hanging out with My9oh4at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena keeping our Arena Football fans #LockedIN.

The Jacksonville Sharks (4-1) devastated their rival, Orlando Predators,  Military Appreciation Night, brought to you by Ocean Grove RV. The Sharks were introduced to their Red, White, and Black camouflage jerseys tonight and did not disappoint against the Orlando Predators (1-5), finishing on a high-scoring 61-7 beat down.

Sharks quarterback, Jonathan Bane, played a lights-out until he went down right before the half. He was 12-of-19 for 142 yards and four touchdowns before leaving the game. Quarterback, Mike Fafaul was thrown into the battle but held the Sharks together going 7-of-13 for 101 yards and one touchdown. Devin Wilson continues to lead the team totaling eight receptions for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Fortson had another great game at home hauling in four receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown, along with a fumble recovery for 23 yards creating a touchdown.

Over in the Arena Football League:

The Washington Valor (2-2) defeated the Philadelphia Soul (2-2), 53-46, Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. Valor quarterback Arvell Nelson, whose seven total touchdowns earned him Most Valuable Player honors, connected with wide receiver Josh Reese for a 46-yard score with just six seconds left to give Washington the victory. With the win, the Valor improve to 2-0 at home this season.

The Albany Empire (4-0) defeated the Columbus Destroyers (0-4), 56-40, in front of 7,035 fans at the Nationwide Arena on Saturday night to remain undefeated to start the 2019 season.  Empire quarterback, Tommy Grady went 22 of 32 passes for 320 yards and seven passing touchdowns earning himself the game MVP award.  Columbus receiver, Fabian Guerra, hauled in 13 catches for 202 yards and six total touchdowns, being named Offensive Player of the Game.  Empire defensive back, Tevin homer, led Albany with six tackles and one interception, being named Defensive Player of the Game.

The Baltimore Brigade (2-2) were defeated, 48-41, by the Atlantic City Blackjacks (2-2) on Saturday night at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in their first road game of the season. Baltimore added 22 points to the scoreboard during the fourth quarter, ending the game with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Joe Hills and a two-point conversion by wide receiver Brandon Collins with zero seconds remaining on the clock.

And Finally Over in the American Arena League

The Battle for FIRST PLACE in the Northern Division was billed as a BATTLE, but someone forgot to tell The Jersey Flight that. Coming into Wheeling West Virginia on Saturday Night, the Flight(3-2 Overall) looked like a good matchup against the Roughriders(7-0 overall), but that isn’t what we the fans got.

WE did get some hard hitting Defense by the Roughriders on the way to a 53-16 win and a LOCK on a PLAYOFF SPOT.

The RENEGADES(??) came into INDIANAPOLIS to take on the ENFORCERS and the Enforcers came out on top 46-6.

And in the Battle of West WEST MICHIGAN, the West Michigan MUSTANGS visited the W MICHIGAN IRONMEN and had the best game in the AAL for the week. The Ironmen won 44-37.

And in the why did we play this game department. The Southern Steam traveled to Florence South Carolina on Saturday to take on the Carolina Havoc and someone forgot to tell the team players that the game was 4 full quarters. Trailing 91-20 late in the 4th quarter the Steam team packed it in and went home.

Now in the teams defense, the Steam play their league games in Jacksonville Florida at the Ice Arena. They took the game on Short notice and some of their STAR Players did not make the trip with them. The Rumors about NOT being paid are surfacing, but this could NOT happen if the league didn’t schedule NON-LEAGUE Games in a Teams Schedule.

The ONLY Reason that the league is doing that is due to them being CONTRACTED with the Teams for a schedule of X amount of games. With the teams backing out its hard to get everyone games.

Speaking of backing out….. Did Cape Fear really tell the League, WE ARE NOT GOING TO TRAVEL this week.

Got to LOVE Arena Football.

Happy Monday!
