Icemen Clinch Playoff Spot with 2-0 Win

The Jacksonville Icemen secured their third consecutive ECHL playoff ticket on Saturday night by defeating the Florida Everblades 2-0 at Hertz Arena in Estero. The victory was clinched by Riley Fiddler-Schultz, who had just returned from the American Hockey League earlier in the week and scored the game-winning goal for the second night in a row by netting less than a minute after the puck dropped.

Under the leadership of head coach Nick Luukko, the Icemen (41-19-5-1) have qualified for the postseason in all three seasons. This year, they have the ECHL's best defensive record and will attempt to progress beyond the second round for the first time in franchise history.

Icemen in Estero taking on the Everblades,  and the rivalry is still very much intact….

CLIP 2
It too the Icemen just 45 seconds to score in this one, as Riley Fiddler-Schultz with the long range shot low that slipped into the back for the goal!

CLIP 3
That goal would hold all the way to the final minutes of the third period….As Florida would pull the goaltender to allow for the extra attacker….The Icemen’s Logan Cockerill gets the puck and tries for the long range shot on the empty-net, but it missed wide, but Cockerill uses his speed to get down the ice, grab the puck again and put it in to make it a 2-0 game.

CLIP 4
The star for the Icemen today was goaltender Matt Vernon who stopped all 35 shots faced to earn his first professional shutout.  Icemen win 2-0, and they clinch a playoff spot with the win and pull within one point of first place Greenville in the South Division.

The Kelly Cup playoffs start as early as April 17, but exact series dates remain to be determined as different series may schedule different dates for Game 1. However, the Icemen have already opened playoff ticket sales.

Through Saturday night, the Icemen stand one point behind the first-place Greenville Swamp Rabbits, and could secure home-ice advantage through the opening two rounds by overtaking the Swamp Rabbits. The teams do not meet again in the regular season.
