Atlanta Gladiators Announce Roster Moves

The Atlanta Gladiators announced the following roster moves as the team heads into the Weekend. Make sure you check out the team as the 16th season of Atlanta Gladiators hockey continues at the Infinite Energy Arena Wednesday, March 13th against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:35 pm. Brett McKenzie has been loaned to the team by the AHL’s Providence Bruins. McKenzie, 21, returns to Atlanta after playing in five contests for the AHL’s P-Bruins. The Ottawa, ON native is ranked third on the Gladiators this season with 22 assists and 33 points in 46 games. The former Vancouver Canucks draft pick posted 224 points (101g, 123a) in 328 OHL games for North Bay and Owen Sound. McKenzie has joined the team in Estero, FL and is expected to be in the lineup tonight against the Florida Everblades.

They have acquired defenseman John Furgele via trade from the Maine Mariners for forward Branden Troock. Furgele, 26, is in his first season of pro hockey and registered 21 points (8g, 13a) in 51 games for Maine. The Glen Mills, PA native led the Mariners on plus/minus with a plus-seven rating and ranked second overall amongst defenders with his 21 points. The 5-foot-10, 181-pound blueliner posted 14 points in 38 games for Quinnipiac University and was named assistant captain of the Bobcats during the 2017-18 campaign. The undrafted rookie played two seasons at the University of New Hampshire, notching 23 points in 73 games, before transferring to Quinnipiac. Furgele will join the team during their Florida road trip and will wear number 11.

That forward Matt Lane has been reassigned to the team by the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL. Lane, 24, has registered 18 points (6g, 12a) in 28 games for the Gladiators this season. The third-year pro was named one of Atlanta’s alternate captains last month. The Rochester, NY native has appeared in 11 games for the Milwaukee Admirals during the current campaign. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward has registered 67 points (31g, 36a) in 132 ECHL games during his career. Lane is en route to Estero, FL to meet the Gladiators for their road trip against Florida and Jacksonville.
