Tales From The Weekend In Arena Football
The game of Football is all about Inches. Each game can go either way depends on Inches, and nothing proves that more then ArenaBowl XXXI as the worst team in the Arena Football League walked away with Championship on Saturday.
The Washington Valor (2-10) shocked the Arena World on Saturday Night as the took control of the 2018 Arena Football Championship and walked away with a 69-55 win over the Baltimore Brigade Saturday Night in ArenaBowl XXXI. Congratulations to all the Valor players and Coaches and now lets see what happens in the AFL.
Now in the National Arena League, the countdown to PLAYOFFS is getting in little numbers and this weekend it all get more interesting.
The League leading massachusetts Pirates visited Jacksonville to take on the 2nd place Jacksonville Sharks inside the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, and in a close and tight game, the SHARKS claimed co-ownership of First place beating the Pirates 45-36.
Sharks Quarterback Patrick McCain had a slow night, but still overcame a lot of obstacles to come up with a victory. He was 17-of-37 for 175 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Wide Receiver Tom Gilson racked up 10 receptions for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Cody Saul also picked up 45 yards on five receptions. Chris Gilchrist had one reception for nine yards and one touchdown. Fullback Derrick Ross sealed the game in the end, but rushed nine times for 30 yards and one touchdown. He had one reception for 11 yards as well.
The Sleeper game of the week took the Carolina Cobras North to take ont he Lehigh Valley Steelhawks and the only thing we needed to know is did the Cobras Score 100 Points! And that answer was NO. But they did beat the Steelhawks 79-28 keeping the Steelhawks Winless in 2018.
Every side of the ball clicked for the Cobras, whether it was kicker Craig Peterson hitting deuces, quarterback Charles McCullum and his receivers making plays, or the defense stepping up and scoring themselves. Down the whole game, the Steelhawks scored 16 points straight and found themselves down by only ten in the third quarter, only to be crushed in the remainder of the game, with the Cobras scoring 41 points straight. The Cobras are now 4-0 against the Steelhawks.
The too late surging Maine Mammoths visited Georgia and the Columbus Lions on Saturday Night with a Home Playoff Game on the line for the Cobras, but things just didn’t work out that way.
The Maine Mammoths (6-8) finish their series against the Columbus Lions (8-6) with a win on a last-second stop from the defense. This victory increases the Mammoths’ win streak to four wins in a row. This victory over the Lions ruined Columbus’ chances of hosting a playoff game, as they are now two games behind the number two Massachusetts Pirates (10-5).
And to wrap up the Arena News…
LockedIN Magazine is just so UNCLEAR about the AAL and/or the now Carolina Havoc. But we will all get some closure on Tuesday! Til then….. take a break and stay #active!
