Eagles Overtake Osprey WIN ASUN

FGCU Beats UNF 77-61

A standing room only crowd packed the Alico Arena on Sunday to watch their Florida Gulf Coast University take on the University of North Florida in the ASUN Championship game, and what a game did they get to see.

In front of an electric crowd, five Eagles scored in double figures, led by 19 points from junior point guard Brandon Goodwin, the ASUN Newcomer of the Year who set the FGCU mark for points in a season (601). Led by Goodwin’s game-high seven, FGCU had 16 assists. The Eagles had nine dunks. FGCU had just seven turnovers for the game and scored 23 points off 13 UNF miscues.

Up by 6 at the Half, the Ospreys came out sluggish in the second haflkf and Eagle’s Guard Brandon Goodwin brought it home as the Eagles win 77-61.

“Great college atmosphere,” FGCU coach Joe Dooley said. “The fans were terrific. Rallied behind us and we got it going a little bit in the second half. Happy for our guys. We struggled, were a little tight in the first half and sort of figured it out at halftime and made some plays.
The bracket will be announced via CBS during its 90-minute Selection Sunday show that tips at 5:30 p.m. on March 12. The Eagles are the fourth team in.
