Week 5 Preview: Sharks vs. Cobras
The Jacksonville Sharks (2-1) will play host to the defending NAL Champions the (3-0) Carolina Cobras on Saturday, May 11 at 7:00 pm for Fortnite and First Responders Night. The Sharks and Cobras are two of the most competitive teams in the NAL. In addition, both teams have two of the best coaches in the NAL both Burley & Back are seasoned coaches with both wins, titles, and awards under their belts. The two coaches also happen to be former players, Burley a former All-Arena Wide Receiver and Back a former Wide Receiver / Kicker Returner who played in multiple indoor leagues including the IFL, AF2, and CIFL. Saturday match up will not only come down to the of the battle of the brawn but a battle of the brains as these experienced intellectuals will go head to head on Saturday night.
Sharks are on a two-game win streak after beating both Columbus and Massachusetts. The Cobras, on the other hand, have won all three of their games so far, including a game last week against the undefeated New York Streets despite Cobras star quarterback Charles McCullum being placed on the inactive list. Currently both teams lead the league in different offensive categories. The Sharks currently top the Cobras in total offense, averaging 245 yards per game compared to the Cobras (221) and the Sharks lead the Cobras in touchdowns 20 to 19. Jacksonville is also running more efficiently than the defending champs averaging 14 more yards per game. When it comes to specific players, Jonathan Bane is making a run towards an MVP award showing that he is willing to do whatever it takes to score points. He leads the league in touchdowns with 15 passing and two rushing. He also leads the league in completions with 64 (averaging 21 per game). The Sharks offense continues to dominate the league, as three of Jacksonville’s receivers are in the NAL’s top 10 for receiving touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Cobras lead the league in turnovers with 12 in only three games where the Sharks are in second with eight. This game will be a battle of who wins the third down and fourth down battle. The Sharks lead the league in allowing the fewest conversions on third down, shutting teams down on 88% of the time and 55% on 4th down conversions. Easy to say fans of the NAL we get a chance to watch the two best defenses in the league face off this saturday. One notable returning player for Jacksonville is defensive back Seth Ellis. Since his return, he has totaled 14 tackles, five pass breakups, and two interceptions. The Sharks defensive line is currently a league leader as both the Sharks and Streets are at the top of the NAL with nine total sacks, Carolina stands in second with seven. One of the big new names on the Sharks line is Nick Woodman who currently leads the team and the league with 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.
