Arena Football Outlook July 23

Streaks Upsets And Major Comebacks Fill The Monday Morning Update

Good morning and welcome to MONDAY. It was an interesting weekend in Arena Football as 1 team continued their streak, another had their biggest comeback for victory and the worst team in the league hits the championship game. Plenty to talk about today, so lets start in the Arena Football League.

Having only 4 teams in your league can Never be a good thing and some teams have to win, and yes some have to lose. The top-seeded Albany Empire was upset by the fourth-seeded Washington Valor in the second game of the home-and-home playoff series by a score of 47-40 Saturday night at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY in front of a crowd of 9,261. Splitting the two-game home-and-home series, the Valor defeated the Empire 103-97 in the aggregate scoring format of the playoff to advance to ArenaBowl XXXI.  Taking NOTHING away from the Valor, but when a 2-10 team goes to the Championship, the league has an issue.

Also, you can say Good Night to the Soul. The Philadelphia Soul fell to the Baltimore Brigade at Royal Farms Arena by the score of 53-41. This is the first time Philadelphia has not advanced to the ArenaBowl Championship since 2015. Although the Soul offense seemed more in sync than last week’s matchup, they were unable to break the Brigade’s steady lead throughout the game.

The ArenaBowl XXXI will be played on Saturday, July 28 with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. ET at Royal Farms Arena

The National Arena League had 3 good games this weekend, starting off in Jacksonville Florida, The Jacksonville Sharks (9-5) defeated the Columbus Lions (8-5) with a 53-48 score, and coming back from a 20-point deficit, which is the Sharks greatest comeback in NAL history. This victory moves the Sharks to second place in the NAL and keeps the Lions at third place in the league. The Sharks are at home on Saturday against the first place Massachusetts Pirates.

In yet another come from behind game,  The Massachusetts Pirates battled the Cobras thru out the game. With Home field for the playoffs on the line both teams fought hard but the Pirates defeated the Carolina Cobras in the final seconds 56-53.

One of the BIG questions in the National Arena League, is WILL THE STEELHAWKS Win a game? Saturday they traveled to Portland Maine to take on the Maine Mammoth and both the Mammoth and Steelhawks left the stadium with their streaks alive. The Mammoth winning 3 in a row and 4 in a row at home, and the Steelhawks staying Winless, losing 50-14.

The Lions signed Auburn product Kamryn Pettway on Sunday, to be their new running back. Pettway will step in immediately and attempt to be a dominant force in the running game for the Lions.

Today’s Big news will come out of the American Arena League. Rumors have the All Star Weekend being Announced later today and LockedIN Magazine will be there, if and when they do.

Now in the RUMOR MILL..

The Richmond Roughriders are NO MORE. Since the arena in Richmond is being redone, the team has no home. Discussions with several markets are underway, but do NOT look for the Roughriders to be back in the AAL.

It looks like Fan Favorite Tim Viens is at it again. Rumor has him linking up with several AAL teams and creating a NEW ARENA LEAGUE.  This one is for the BIRDS and needs to be AVOIDED at all COST. Rumor has the Florida Tarpons and New England Cavalry joining other teams to create YET ANOTHER League. This is a time to come together NOT pull people apart.

Well.. Have a good morning.. and see you at the Goal Line!
