LockedIN Magazine Sits Down With Michael Sweet
When your around bands and sports teams, every now and then you get the chance to hang out and talk with one of your all time favorite people. LockedIN Magazine got the chance the other day to sit down and chat with Michael Sweet, lead vocals, guitar for the 80’s Favorite Stryper.
Formed in 1983 as Roxx Regime, Oz Fox (guitar), Perry Richardson (bass guitar), and Robert Sweet (drums), the band soon changed their musical message to reflect their Christian beliefs, and the band’s name was also changed to Stryper.
In 1983, they signed with major label Enigma Records and released their debut album The Yellow and Black Attack. In the mid-1980s, Stryper enjoyed their most successful period beginning with the release of To Hell with the Devil, which achieved platinum sales status. Stryper went on to release two more gold albums before disbanding in 1992
LM- Is there a stop on the tour that’s important to you specifically? Michael-if say the tour stops in Texas and Tennessee are the in ones I’m fond of reason being the family and friends I have that come out and support the band when we make it to their town or city
LM- What’s your favorite go to food when out on the road? Michael– I’d say my favorite go-to is always authentic Mexican here in Texas.you it’s not easy to get the real thing anywhere else
LM- What do you do to kill time when out on the road in between stops? Michael– for instance yesterday me and guys relaxed at our hotel and grilled around the pool.kinda gives you that sense of being home while you are out on the road
LM- What cities can we look forward to seeing you stop at while on this tour? Michael– we are in Texas now finished up this run then heading to the mid west.later in the summer we are heading overseas to Japan then coming back for an East coast U.S tour in the fall
LM- What’s can we expect to hear on this new album that is different from previous albums? Michael– the overall way it sounds.i wrote this album in 10 days and it is one of the best I’ve written to date
LM- What inspiration did you have while working on this new album? Michael– would have to say my band mates and striving to write better songs and sell more albums
LM- Do you have a favorite song on the new album? Michael– to be honest I like all the tracks off of our new album ‘God Damn Evil’ but if I have to pick one it would be “You Don’t Even Know Me” it’s about internet bullying and you as well as I have seen the damage it can do. John- it’s like the internet has given everyone a voice and 90% shouldn’t have one
Michael- exactly what I think myself
LM- What has been the biggest challenge so far on this new album? Michael– biggest challenge I think is getting fans to buy albums and CDs instead of downloading them.that takes alot away from the artist
LM- What is one thing that makes this new album different than previous albulms? Michael– the sound and what it brings to the fans.its a different sound that what fans are used to hearing but I believe everyone will be pleased with it’s outcome
