Flag Football For A Million Dollars Finishes Next Weekend
The American Flag Football League wrapped up the second day of Semifinal action on Saturday, with the two winning teams headed to Indianapolis next weekend for the chance to play in the Ultimate Final and a $1 million prize. Thanks to Jermaine Murphy for hanging out with My2two9 and keeping Atlanta GA #LockedIN.
Sunday started with a tense clash between Code Red and the firey Money Team. Texas’ Money Team, favored in this matchup and known for their ability to pull flags, faced a solid offense and stout defense from Code Red.
The America’s Bracket finalists now travel to Indy on July 14 for one final game before they reach the ultimate dream of playing against the winner of the Pros bracket and taking home $1,000,000 in the Ultimate Final.
With the scored tied 7-7 at the half, the teams traded scores again early in the second half. Down 13-7, Diere Franklin found Jarvis Johnson in the end zone, and after completing the extra point, The Money Team held on to a slim lead. With a solid showcasing of talent from both squads, the game could have gone either way, but ultimately the extra point proved to be the difference, and The Money Team held on for a nail-bitingly close 14-13 final score. The Texas team will meet Fighting Cancer in Indianapolis battling for the title of America’s Champion.
“This is what everyone has been waiting for Fighting Cancer takes on Money Team we’ve known that from the beginning.” said Captain and QB of the Money Team Diere Franklin, looking ahead to next week.
The night continued with an energized crowd ready to watch the second half of the Pro’s bracket with stars from a range of sports stepping onto the field. Basketball star and captain of Holdat Nate Robinson showed his hand-eye coordination skills with multiple defensive blocks, and while his team tried to hold their own, Godspeed led at the half 18-6. Godspeed pulled away in the second half behind the play of Seneca Wallace, who accounted for six total touchdowns, with Jahvid Best pulling in the play of the day with an incredible end zone catch made from the ground, after initially slipping. The game ended in a blowout, 38-12.
“We were better prepared than the other team, which is what ultimately made the game. Everyone knew what was being asked of them and that’s what made us play as a team” said James Ihedigbo Godspeed’s Defensive Back during the post-game press conference.
Godspeed will take on Team Ocho in Indy next weekend after the Money Team goes head to head with Fighting Cancer as the US Open of Football continues on at Butler University’s stadium on July 14th. Two teams will win the coveted spot in the ultimate finals, and the two brackets will finally meet for the Million Dollar game. Can the pros play against the best of the best at their sport? Or will America’s Champions showcase their expertise in this legendary tournament?
